Bardia National Park, Bardiya

This park is situated in the Bardiya district of mid-western Nepal, to the south of the Siwalik range. Bardiya National Park is the largest and most undisturbed wildlife area of the Terai and is home to the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger and Nepal's famous one-horned rhinoceros. This park covers 968 sq km, which lies in a varied geographical area of Banke, Bardiya, and Surkhet districts.  The park is a sub-tropical jungle, is thickly forested by sal trees and carpeted with grass, savannah, and riverine vegetation. The north is bordered by the Churia hill range, the west by the Karnali River, and the Babai River cuts its course almost through the middle of the park. On the southern fringe of the park are the villages of the unique and indigenous Tharu people of Western Nepal. Considered one of the most picturesque national parks in Asia, it teems with the rich and diverse flora and fauna of the Jungle Safari in Nepal.

The park hosts 53 different mammals, more than 420 species of birds, and several varieties of reptiles and aquatic animals. Birds endangered varieties of Bengal florican, lesser florican, silver-eared mesia, and sarus crane. In addition, the wild elephant and swamp deer are also found here. Bardiya has the country's second-largest tiger population and blackbuck antelopes. A few wild elephants, Gharial crocodiles, and some rare Gangetic dolphins are found in the Karnali river on its western Border. The park offers the rare opportunity of angling at the River Karnali and the River Babai.

Within the park are several open grasslands (plants) where game viewing is excellent. Many of the forest tracks throughout the park also offer excellent game viewing. And when you can take in the sights and sounds of the wild without necessarily having to give up on your creature comforts, what more could you ask for?

Bardia Jungle Safari - 4 Days Itinerary

Kathmandu to Kathmandu

Expand all

We will pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu, drive to the domestic airport, and check in at the domestic counter for the flight to Nepalgunj. The flight itself is an awesome experience. Gaze down at the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, seeing several of the 8000+ meter summits. The plane touches down an hour later at Nepalgunj airport, where you will be met by resort crews with a comfortable vehicle and driven for 71 kilometers to Bardia Babai Resort

You will be greeted at the  Babai resort with a welcome drink. Check into your room, enjoy lunch, and then the guide will brief you about the Bardia Jungle safari tour, later visit Tharu Village. There will be time to visit the elephant breeding grounds to see baby elephants. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner while watching a fantastic sunset from the Babai resort.

One of the best ways to appreciate the jungles of Bardia is to take a jungle walk. It’s a full day as we move about to various places to watch for the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. Your jungle guide knows their handouts, and he’ll take you to see these spots to wait for the arrival of these jungle cats. They are so impressive to watch as they strut next to the watering holes. It’s their jungle, and their attitude shows that they believe it. We enjoy a delicious box lunch, have a picnic in the jungle. In the evening, return to the resort for dinner and a Tharu cultural program.

On day three, we will penetrate deeper into Bardia National Park on a jeep safari. While the jungle walk is exciting, a jeep safari takes you deeper into the park. Here we see more of the animals and birds as well as the unique plant life that makes up this wonderful place. We will have a box lunch with a picnic during the day as we enjoy the animals and serenity of Bardia National Park. Return to Resort in the evening to relax

The jungle experience is coming to a close as you rise to the sound of the birds singing. It’s time for breakfast before departure. You will travel back to Nepalgunj, passing through jungles, forests, and villages to reach the airport. From here, it’s just an hour back to Kathmandu and beyond the Limits Trekking staff will be waiting for you and drive you to your Hotel and enjoy city life in Kathmandu, or on your next destination border to India or something else.
