Guides charge a daily wage, which can vary based on their experience, language proficiency, and the level of service they provide. On average, guide fees range from USD 20 to USD 40 per day.
Similar to guides, porters also charge a daily wage. The cost can vary based on factors such as the weight of the load they carry and the difficulty of the trek. On average, porter fees can range from USD 15 to USD 25 per day.
*Note: It is customary to tip guides and porters at the end of the trek as a gesture of appreciation for their services. Tips are not covered in our package cost.
Expenses Not Covered In The Annapurna Circuit Trek Cost:
Visa Cost:
The Nepali travel visa fees are not covered in our Annapurna circuit trek cost. So, you have to bear this expense. Do note that we, Beyond The Limits Treks, do not take responsibility for the travel visa.
We can only help you by providing the trip confirmation letter that you can use to obtain the travel visa. If you fail to obtain it, we may not be able to help you further or refund the full amount of the package (in case the trip gets canceled).
The Nepali tourist visa costs USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, and USD 125 for 90 days. You can get the visa either from the Nepalese Embassy/Consulate Office in your country or upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport.
If you are applying for an on-arrival visa, you have the option to complete the process online and pay at the airport. It will take 10 to 15 minutes, and you will have your tourist visa.
*Note:
Make sure you are using a convertible currency for visa fee payment. US dollars are the best.
You can extend the tourist visa up to 4 months at the Immigration Department in Kathmandu.
There are different tourist visa rules for different countries, so check your country's tourist visa status at the Nepal Immigration Department website.
Annapurna Circuit Travel Insurance Cost:
Annapurna circuit is part of the Himalayas, and trekking in the Himalayas always involves risks of injuries and altitude sickness. Due to poor health and transportation infrastructures, we have to use helicopter evacuation in case of emergency. And to provide the rescue on time, we need travel insurance that assures the expenses are covered in it.
For the Annapurna circuit trek 14 days, we strongly recommend our guests or anyone to get well-covered travel insurance that includes high-altitude activities. Medical bills and helicopter evacuation are a must in your travel insurance. Likewise, you can also add lost/delayed baggage, flight cancellation, etc, in the travel insurance.
*Note: Make sure your travel insurance covers emergency air evacuation over 4,000 meters for Annapurna circuit trekking.
On average, travel insurance for trekking will cost you around USD 150 per person for 30 days. The numbers may differ from one insurance provider to another. Make sure to check all of their policies before signing the insurance papers.
Annapurna Circuit Trek Equipment Cost:
You have to wear proper clothes and shoes during Annapurna circuit trekking. The weather, climate, and terrain in the Himalayas are very different, and normal clothes will not be sufficient to keep you warm. You need to buy trekking clothes and gear, and it may cost you good money, as per the quality or brand you go for.
The good news is that you can rent good quality trekking clothes at a fraction of the cost for any trek in Nepal, including the Annapurna circuit. There are many trekking clothing and gear rental service providers in Thamel from where you can rent.
Renting will cost you USD 1 to USD 3 or a bit more per day, depending upon the gear. Likewise, buying all the clothes and gear may cost you USD 500 and above.
Flight cost to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal:
Our Annapurna circuit trek cost does not cover international flights to/from Kathmandu. You have to budget the flight fares. The flight fare may vary as per the season. The cost is high during the top seasons- February to May and September to November.
Book the flight to Kathmandu further ahead to get a cheap rate, and look out for any deals. It may cost around USD 1,000 to USD 1,400 for a round trip to Kathmandu, Nepal.
Additional expenses during the Annapurna circuit trek:
Our Annapurna circuit trek cost covers all the major expenses, but you have to cover your personal expenses, such as hot shower, WiFi, charging, additional food and drinks, etc, during trekking. Services like these cost a few extra bucks in the tea houses/lodges and are not covered in our package cost.
Hot shower: USD 2 to USD 5 per shower. Why? Because the locals rely on gas/wood to heat the water, which is very expensive to bring to villages.
Electricity (to charge phone, camera, etc): USD 1 to USD 2. Why? Because locals rely on solar power.
WiFi: USD 2 to USD 4
Local SIM Card: USD 5 to USD 10 with ample data. A better alternative to WiFi. The network is not available throughout the Annapurna circuit trail.
Boiled Drinking Water: USD 1 per liter
*You can budget around USD 10 to USD 15 for the Annapurna circuit trek cost per day on the trail.
Tips and Spending Money:
Another expense that you may have to budget for the Annapurna circuit trek is tips for guides, porters, and drivers. We make sure our guides and porters get well paid for their hard work in the mountains.
At the same time, we also ask our guests or anyone taking their service to tip them at the end of their service as a thank you. It gives them motivation to work harder and also an opportunity to make some extra cash.
You can tip 10%-15% of the total package cost to the guide and porter. Or, for a 14 to 18-day trek, you can tip USD 150 to USD 200 to your guide and USD 50 to USD 80 to your porter. Likewise, you can tip USD 2 to your drivers and USD 5 to USD 10 to your tour guide. It is up to you how much you want to tip.
*Note: If you are unhappy with your guide or porter service, you do not have to pay. Tipping is totally up to your satisfaction.
Finally, we also recommend budgeting money for shopping and some emergency funds. This may vary from person to person and their spending habits. If you like to enjoy spas, massages, shopping, cafe hopping, drinks, etc, you should budget as per that.
We recommend keeping USD 200 to USD 1,000 and above as per your spending habits for shopping and other services. Likewise, keep a few hundred to a thousand to two thousand dollars aside as an emergency fund. You will not be using this amount unless the situation demands. It is your safety net.
