Our Experience on this Short Poon Hill Trek

We began offering the Short Poon Hill Trek since 2000. Early that year, many tourists still didn't know about the road and transportation updates, as many travel websites weren't caught up. So, at first, we felt hesitant to promote this Jeep option, and it felt like a less adventurous trek, and it compromised a real trekking spirit.

When our experienced guides led trekkers in the original route, it became clear that walking alongside the passing jeep gave a disruptive feel for true hikers. That was when we realized this trek was not ideal for those chasing remote adventure but it is for people who are seeking short, scenic, and non-strenuous Mountain experiences.

Since then, we have organized many trips to Poon Hill with this itinerary, and trekkers with just 2-3 days have truly enjoyed this. This trek is perfect for families, couples, and travelers who are searching of panoramic Himalayan views and authentic village life without hard elevation gains .The feedback has been fantastic, everyone appreciates the flexibility, comfort, and ease of access this trek now offers.

Poon Hill Trek -2 Days Itinerary

Pokhara to Pokhara

Expand all

Start your day with an early morning drive from Pokhara to Gorepani. After having breakfast in Pokhara, we will leave around 7-8 AM for Ghorepani. It will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to reach Ghorepani. We will drive through terraced farms and scenic villages, which you will get to enjoy. The drive up to Birentahti, where the permits for the trek is checked are graveled so the drive will be easy. After crossing Birenthati, most of the roads are rugged, so be prepared for the road. This rugged road has a charm of its own, giving the true essence of the adventure, and you could witness great scenery and rivers along the road, making the drive scenic. You could see some tourists walking along the road who start from down below.

After reaching Banthati, we will have lunch there and take some time to rest from the rugged road drive and stretch our bodies. Then we will continue our journey to Ghorepani by jeep. It will take around 1 hour to reach Ghorepani, depending on how fast the jeep driving so it's just an approximation. We will drive through lush forests, cross rivers, and visit some beautiful villages like Nagethati along the way. The more we ascent more beautiful the scenery becomes. Our trail will be covered with beautiful rhododendron forests and pine trees. In spring, this trail gives one of the best charms. We will reach Ghorepani, and we will pass by the check post again, check our permits, and enter the village of Ghorepani.

Ghorepani village is beautiful, offering us the beautiful scenery of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. After seeing these mountain views, many travelers say it's the best view they have ever seen, if it's their first time in Nepal. We will check in at our hotel to be fresh and in the evening be ready for dinner around 6:30 PM. Our guide will brief you on the time you have to wake up tomorrow morning for Poon Hill Sunrise.

We will wake up early in the morning for a sunrise view from Poon Hill. We will ascend around 400 meters up for mesmerizing views of the Himalayan range from Poon Hill. The wake-up time could be different throughout the year as the sunrise time changes. We will wake up as the time is set in the dinner and be fresh and start our ascend to Poon Hill.

The trail to Poon Hill is mostly made of stone steps and it takes around 45 mins to reach there, however, it's not that challenging so you can take it easy. Along the way, we need to buy a ticket to enter Poon Hill which we will do and continue our ascend. Along the ascend your view will keep getting better and better. Annapurna South would look like the hand of a god himself as you keep on ascending. After reaching the viewpoint Poon Hill you could witness one of the best views of the Himalayan range that Nepal has to offer. A 360-degree view with 180 degrees filled with the Himalayan range makes this viewpoint one of the best view points in Nepal.

The mountains you will see from this point, going from right to left, are: Baudha Himal, Himalchuli, Himalchuli North, Ngadi Chuli, Lamjung West, Annapurna IV, Mardi Himal, Machhapurche (Fishtail), Annapurna III, Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna Fang, Nilgiri East, North and South, Tsartse, Tashi Kang, Tashi Kang III, Dhampus Peak, Tukuche, Dhaulagiri, Dhaulagiri II, III, IV, and VI, Gurja, and finally Ghustang North and South. Moreover, you could see two other hills, unknown for their beautiful scenery, Muldai View Point and Khopra Danda View Point. These two are less commercialized trek in Nepal which also offers great views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range.

After watching this stunning sunrise overseeing the beautiful mountain range we will descend down to Ghorepani for morning breakfast. After having breakfast, we will descend the same way we came up to via Banthati and drive out to Pokhara. We will make a small stop in Birenthati for Lunch and after having lunch, we will continue our journey to Pokhara. After dropping you in your Hotel this small trek of ours will be complete.

Along the way to Pokhara, there is a bungee jumping place in Kusma (the world's second highest bungee jumping) if you like to do bungee, then we could take a little detour and bungee jump and drive back to Pokhara.
